PREVIEW

Novak Djokovic vs Daniil Medvedev Prediction, Betting Tips and Preview of the Men's Australian Open Final Game on Friday February 19th, 2021 Melbourne, Australia.

The Serb will look to further strengthen the relationship as he tries to win a record ninth title at Melbourne Park.

In Djokovic's path would be fourth-placed Daniil Medvedev, the first Russian to reach the final in Australia since Marat Safin in 2005.

In his current form, there are no two better players on the tour than Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev.

Djokovic has dealt with intense pain and incredibly difficult matches against Taylor Fritz, Milos Raonic and Alexander Zverev.

The Serbian has not been physically at his best this year, but has still managed to keep his 100% semi-final record in Melbourne intact.

Daniil Medvedev is on a 20-win streak in a row, having faced the last loss to Kevin Anderson at the 2020 Vienna Open. Since then, the Russian has managed to win the Paris Masters, ATP Finals and ATP Cup, and now looks set to win his first major title.

Medvedev has beaten every active member of the top 10 during this streak, including Novak Djokovic.

Here in Australia Daniil Medvedev has won all but one of his matches (the only exception being the third round against Filip Krajinovic) in straight sets.

In the quarter-finals and semi-finals, the Muscovite hardly had any problems with Stefanos Tsitsipas or Andrey Rublev, two players who have been in very good touch lately.

In his semi-final match Medvedev was almost untouchable in his serve, winning a whopping 88% of his first serve points. The 25-year-old served 17 aces in the match, while racking up 46 winners compared to just 19 for the Greek.

Novak Djokovic has never lost a final in this tournament, and has only been carried to five sets twice (2012 and 2020).

And while Djokovic may have shown some weaknesses against Alexander Zverev and Taylor Fritz, that was largely due to the fact that physical issues were hampering his natural style of play.

Prediction and Picks

Daniil Medvedev has lost he has lost only 8 times his serve in six games. He has mastered the proceedings with his imposing first serve, and will look to do the same in the final.

Djokovic is undoubtedly the best returner on the circuit, and he can probably put Medvedev's serve in trouble. The Russian would also have to watch out for Djokovic's cuts and low returns in the middle of the court.

Medvedev can hurt Djokovic with his own strengths, like stretching the opponent through his sharp angled cross shots. But the key for the Russian would be to close out the points once he has Djokovic cornered on one side of the court, which is easier said than done.
