Watford FC vs Chelsea FC EPL Soccer Predictions & Odds

Having laid out his priorities for all to see when he named a much-changed team for Chelsea’s mid-week Carabao Cup defeat Man Utd at Stamford Bride, Frank Lampard is expected to restore all his big-guns to his starting XI for the Blues’ Premier League meeting with Watford on Saturday.

Watford’s winless run in the Premier League (PL) currently stands at 14 games (D6, L8) with five of the last six losses in that group seeing them lose by a margin of over 1.5 goals and concede a penalty goal or own-goal.

The Hornets are rock bottom of the Premier League and completely devoid of confidence having failed to win any of their first 10 matches of the campaign, and though goals have been thin on the ground for Watford since the summer, they did manage to register against Chelsea’s top four rivals Arsenal and Spurs already this term.

We think Watford are capable of netting a consolation again this weekend, though we also believe that they will ultimately be powerless to stop a Chelsea team with serious momentum behind them from winning.

Tom Cleverley was forced off after 10 minutes in the 0-0 draw with Bournemouth, which could see Will Hughes come into the XI. Cleverley joins Danny Welbeck, Troy Deeney and Domingos Quina on the sidelines, while Isaac Success, Ismaila Sarr and Etienne Capoue are doubts.

Watford midfielder Roberto Pereyra’s two prior PL home goals vs Chelsea both arrived in stoppage-time of one half.

Each of Chelsea’s five PL away games this season have produced over 3.5 total goals (W4, L1), with all of the wins producing over 4.5! Three of those victories saw the first half alone produce three or more total goals.

Lampard would have been disappointed to see his team’s lengthy seven game winning streak come to an end at home to United, though the former England international will be more concerned with getting wins in games of more importance this term, starting with this weekend’s fixture at Vicarage Road.

With Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount continuing to sparkle, Chelsea have looked full of goals in attack and the Blues rattled the net at least three times in each of their recent quartet of Premier League away victories.

Emerson has suffered a minor setback, which should see Marcos Alonso continue at left-back for Chelsea. 'Golo Kante and Ross Barkley are edging closer to fitness, though it remains to be seen whether the pair will be fit for the trip to Watford. Frank Lampard could name the same XI that started the 4-2 win at Burnley last weekend.

A Christian Pulisic hat-trick at Turf Moor (Oct 26) helped Chelsea score 4+ times for the third PL road trip in succession. Oct/Nov 2004 is the last time any Chelsea team achieved this feat!

Extra Points
Watford have won just one of their last 11 Premier League meetings with Chelsea (D2 L8), winning 4-1 at Vicarage Road in February 2018.
Chelsea have won their last four away Premier League games, netting at least three goals each time. In top-flight history, only Everton have won five consecutive away games while netting 3+ goals each time, doing so back in December 1927 en route to winning the league title.
Watford are winless in their 10 Premier League games this season (D5 L5), scoring fewer goals than any other side (5). They’ve never failed to win any of their opening 11 games to any league campaign before, while the last side to do so in the Premier League were QPR in 2012-13.
Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham has scored six goals and assisted one more in his last four away Premier League games – he’s scored more away goals than any other player in the competition this season, and already more than any Chelsea player hit on the road last season.
