Reason for Bayern Munchen vs Borussia Dortmund Bundesliga
|Bayern Munchen -175|
It doesn’t get much bigger than ‘Der Klassiker’ as heavyweights Bayern Munich take on title-rivals Borussia Dortmund in a fixture that’s seen the hosts win by a stunning three-goal margin or larger in the last four Bundesliga H2Hs held at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern are currently the Bundesliga’s joint-highest goal scorers, scoring 25 goals in 10 Bundesliga games. Dortmund have been similarly impressive in front of goal this season. They are currently trailing Bayern by just two league goals.
However it was Bayern on the end of a mauling last weekend, as they were beaten 5-1 by Frankfurt – their fifth consecutive Bundesliga match to see both teams score. They’ve now conceded more goals (16) than any other top-half side ahead of the round, but have also netted a joint-league high 2.5 goals per game. Unsurprisingly, Bayern have scored in both halves in four of their five home league matches.
Bayern have also been struggling in recent weeks without the injured defensive pair of Niklas Sule and Lucas Hernandez. Bayern’s first clean sheet of the season without Sule came in midweek versus Olympiacos (also the first since March). Coach Niko Kovac paid the price for a poor run of form with the sack. Caretaker Hansi Flick takes over.
Robert Lewandowski reportedly needs a minor groin operation, but will probably delay surgery to take part in the Klassiker. Jérôme Boateng is suspended for two games following his early dismissal in Frankurt last weekend.
Key Player: Robert Lewandowski has scored in a record-breaking ten consecutive Bundesliga fixtures - he’s also the all-time top ‘Der Klassiker’ scorer (21 – all competitions).

Dortmund are enjoying an impressive undefeated domestic run at present. They are currently undefeated in each of their last 7 Bundesliga games. However, Dortmund have drawn four of their last six Bundesliga fixtures. Dortmund have also drawn each of their last three Bundesliga away games.
Dortmund are very much a second-half side though, as evidenced by their current three-game competitive winning run that saw all eight of their goals netted after half-time. They conceded the opener in two of those, something that’s occurred in five straight Bundesliga H2Hs (W1, L4).
Roman Bürki could return to league action after recovering from the flu. Back-up goalkeeper Marwin Hitz has problems with his back. Marco Reus missed the midweek Champion League outing and remains doubtful with an ankle problem.
England's Jadon Sancho limped off late in the thrilling comeback win over Inter Milan with a "thigh muscle tear" and like skipper Reus, will be assessed nearer the game. Achraf Hakimi could play in a more advanced role as he has done with aplomb of late. Julian Brandt is also in good form and could slot in for the injury-prone Reus.
Key Player: Paco Alcácer netted the game-winning goal in the two previous H2Hs he scored in – he’s been Dortmund’s first goalscorer in four of the six competitive games he’s netted in this term.
|The Pick: Draw +350, Under 3.5|
