Reason for Florida Panthers vs Boston Bruins NHL Picks

Florida Panthers +140

The Panthers are actually playing better than what the talent on the roster would lead people to believe they could do. At the same time, though, the Panthers still have to improve on their defensive side of the puck if the Panthers want to stick around long term in their position in the division. The last game out for the Panthers was a 6-5 win over the Rangers in a shootout. The win did push the Panthers to an 8-4-5 mark on the year.

The Panthers received offensive production from all over the ice with five different players scoring goals as Aleksander Barkov, Dominic Toninato, Evgenii Dadonov, Frank Vatrano and Brian Boyle all tallied goals for the Panthers.  Sam Montembeault started in goal for the Panthers and recorded the win in the game, allowing 5 goals on 34 New York shots.

Dadonov gave the Panthers a 3-2 lead with his eighth of the year, on the power play, at 4:42 off assists from Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau. The Rangers scored the next two to go up 4-3 before Frank Vatrano knotted the game with his fifth of the year at 8:30 off an assist from Dadonov. New York countered with another marker to take the one-goal lead to the dressing room.

Florida captain Aleksander Barkov failed to find the net in his first 12 games this season despite collecting 13 points, but now he can't seem to miss and is riding a five-game goal-scoring streak -- two short of Pavel Bure's franchise record. Barkow also has four assists during the five-game point streak to boost his team-leading total to 22 points and has recorded 13 (six goals, seven assists) in 18 meetings with Boston. Linemate Jonathan Huberdeau also has points in five straight games and had 15 in 24 games against Boston.

Boston Bruins -160

Boston is heading into the game here after having their offense score in the recent games. The Bruins have dropped 3 games in a row and the last game was a shootout loss to the Flyers. The loss ended up dropping the Bruins to an 11-3-3 mark on the year.

The Bruins are currently 11-3-3 on the season and are currently in first place in the Atlanta Division but have lost their last 3 games.  David Pastrnak leads the Bruins in points with 30 and goals with 15.  Brad Marchand leads the Bruins in assists with 18 and has also scored 11 goals on the season.

The goalies for Boston have been strong all season as Rask is currently 7-2-1 with a goals against average of 1.99.  Backup goalie Jaroslav Halak currently has a record of 4-1-2 and a goals against average of 2.67.  The Bruins have 5 players listed on their injury report as Jake DeBrusk, Brett Ritchie and David Backes are all listed as out, Torey Krug is listed as day to day and John Moore is on injured reserve.

Defenseman Torey Krug sustained an upper-body injury in the loss to Philadelphia and has been ruled out of Tuesday's game, although the team is hopeful he will return for a weekend back-to-back. "We will re-evaluate as the week goes on," Cassidy told reporters Monday.
