Switzerland will host the IIHF 2020 World Championship. The tournament will be held May 8 to 24, 2020 in Zurich and Lausanne.
14 of the 16 participating countries automatically qualified for the 2020 championships, as they finished in the top 14 of last year's tournament. Belarus and Kazakhstan qualified through the winning promotion of the 2019 IIHF World Championship Division 1 tournament.
The World Ice Hockey Championship is an annual ice hockey competition for men's national teams organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation. It was first held at the 1920 Summer Olympics and became a single event in 1930.
The World Championship currently consists of 16 teams from the championship group, 12 teams from Division I and 12 teams from Division II. The world championship faces the championship group with teams divided into groups of 8 who play a group stage against all. The top 8 teams in the classification progress to the qualification stages until one team continues to stand.
Canada is in the Group along with Sweden, the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia, Denmark, Belarus and Great Britain. On the other hand, the current Finnish champions lead Group B and join Russia, the United States, Switzerland, Latvia, Norway, Italy and Kazakhstan. Belarus and Kazakhstan joined Division I after their promotion.
Finland is currently the world champion, beating Canada in the 2019 final. Canada is the World Championship winning country with a total of 26 titles. The former Soviet Union won 22 world titles, while Russia has 5. Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic have six each, while Sweden won a total of 11 championships.
Canada v Russia: these two countries are ready for the collision on May 24. Canada is on a recovery mission after losing to Finland in last year's final, while Russia finishes waiting for six years to win a medal gold.
This is the odds of winning the 2020 IIHF World Championship.
