The PGA Tour arrives in Michigan at Detroit's Rocket Mortgage Classic, the first major event after the COVID-19 pandemic. This is just the second year of this event, which ended on June 30 of last year with Nate Lashley lifting the first trophy of his PGA career.
5 of the top 10 in the FedEx Cup standings are available, but this should still be a quality tournament with a good finish on Sunday for those trying to get over a hangover after the July 4 holiday. Bryson DeChambeau starts out as the favorite to win this tournament followed by Webb Simpson and Tyrrell Hatton.
Let's analyze the players who in our opinion have the possibility of giving us money this week in this tournament.
BRYSON DECHAMBEAU $ 650 is someone who should be on every golf betting card until this hot streak cools down a bit. DeChambeau has put together six consecutive top-10 results, including a -15 in the Travelers Championship last week. Right now DeChambeau is the most popular and consistent golfer in the world and as long as he remains that way, he should be in this top.
WEBB SIMPSON $ 1,100 The RBC Heritage champion retired last week, but returns to lead this week's statistical model. His first professional victory was at the Donald Ross-designed Sedgefield Country Club in 2011.
TYRRELL HATTON $ 1,200 has quietly won two of his last five events and is coming in third at RBC Heritage. Hatton has not missed a cut since the BMW PGA Championship and is top 15 in seven of his last eight events.
PATRICK REED $ 1,400 looked good on Sunday allowing him to sneak into the top 25, easily his best round of golf since golf returned. Reed is a golf player who takes advantage of the momentum and should be optimistic about the way the Travelers Championship ended. Reed also has a thing for Donald Ross' courses, and he finished fifth here last year.
VIKTOR HOVLAND $ 2,000 is ranked 21st after a T-11 finish last week. He has constantly improved his results in his four events dating back to the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
TONY FANAU $ 2,500 ranks eighth in SG: Focus and leads the field in SG: Tee-to-Green. She hasn't finished in the top 20 since a disappointing second place in Waste Management.
KEVIN NA $ 3,300 comes from the top five in the Travelers Championship, and was impeccable in the final round where he hit 12 of 14 fairways and 15 of 18 regulation greens. Na also sank his putts, which included a 23-foot putt on the 18th hole. Na is a veteran who is just as dangerous as anyone on the field when he has his game going.
BRANDT SNEDEKER $ 5,000 since returning from the coronavirus has had some trouble finding his good form, he has lost the cut in 3 of his last 5 starts. But the spark he needed could have shown up at last week's traveler tournament with a -8. Last year Snedeker finished 5th in this same tournament.
