San Francisco 49ers vs Arizona Cardinals NFL Thursday Night Football Week 9 Free Predictions

It’s an NFC West contest down in the Valley of the Sun to kick off Week 9 of the NFL schedule. The San Francisco 49ers are on the road as they make the trip to face the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday Night Football. San Francisco rolled to a convincing 51-13 win at home over Carolina Sunday afternoon to remain unbeaten on the season.

Odds Analysis: The 49ers opened as 7-point home favorites, but that line jumped to San Francisco -8 by Monday. The Cardinals moneyline opened at +217 and the point total at 43 before a tick up to 44.5. The total has gone UNDER in three of the 49ers’ last four road games with an average combined score of 35.5.

The 49ers improved to 7-0 straight up and 5-2 against the spread with their 51-13 blowout win over Carolina. A banged-up Arizona squad fell to 3-4-1 SU and failed to cover +12.5 in a 31-9 loss at New Orleans to fall to 5-3 ATS.

This will be only the second time since 2014 that the 49ers are road favorites of 8 or more points. San Francisco failed to cover -10 during a rain-soaked contest at the Redskins a few weeks ago. The Cardinals are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games as an underdog, but 2-9-1 ATS in their last 12 home games against the NFC West.

San Francisco 49ers -10

San Francisco is off to a strong start and looks nothing like the team that finished the 2018 season 4-12. In fact, after their win last week, the 49ers had more wins heading into this contest (seven) than they had in any of the last four full seasons. San Francisco started the year with a pair of road wins as they downed Tampa Bay 31-17 followed by a 41-17 dismantling of Cincinnati.

Bosa earned a spot in the history books last week by becoming the third rookie to record at least three sacks and an interception in one game since the sack became an official stat in 1982.

Coleman had 105 yds rushing on 11 carries and 3 rushing touchdowns.  Coleman also added a receiving touchdown on 2 receptions.  Jimmy Garoppolo completed 18 of 22 passes for 175 yds, to go along with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception.  As a team, the 49ers rushed for 232 yds and 5 scores.  The 49ers picked off Carolina quarterback Kyle Allen 3 times in the victory.

Matt Breida leads the team with 84 carries for 446 yards plus a score this season as one of a three-headed committee for the 49ers. Raheem Mostert contributes 54 carries for 309 yards plus a score while Tevin Coleman has 71 carries for 332 yards and five touchdowns. Jeff Wilson Jr.

Arizona Cardinals +10

Arizona held a 3-0 lead after the opening quarter and was within 10-6 at the half before things unraveled. The Cardinals were unable to get the ball in the end zone and their offense struggled to move the chains while the defense was unable to slow New Orleans.

Arizona is dealing with some serious issues in the backfield due to injuries to its top two running backs, David Johnson and Chase Edmonds, which necessitated the acquisition of Kenyan Drake from Miami on Monday.

Linebacker Jordan Hicks leads the Cardinals with 79 tackles (44 solo) along with two forced fumbles this season. Budda Baker (63 tackles, forced fumble), Haason Reddick (57 tackles, fumble recovery) along with corners Byron Murphy (45 tackles) and Tramaine Brock Sr. (28 tackles) are making plays on the defensive side of the ball as well.

Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray was 19/33 for 220 yds, with no interceptions.  The Cardinals only managed 40 yds rushing on 11 carries.  The Cardinals were hoping running back Chase Edmonds would be able to mirror his previous outing against the Giants.  That was not the case, Edmonds had 7 carries for 8 yds and is listed as doubtful against the 49ers.
