Reason for #4 Penn State Nittany Lions vs #17 Minnesota Golden Gophers

#4 Penn State Nittany Lions -6.5

Penn State will clearly be the best offense Minnesota has faced this season. Quarterback Sean Clifford has thrown for 1,931 yards, 20 touchdowns and only three interceptions with a 62 percent completion percentage.

He should be able to test Minnesota’s secondary after getting the running game rolling with a deep stable of backs. The Golden Gophers haven’t had nearly as much success slowing down the rushing attack as they have against the pass.

Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford was 18 of 32 for 189 yds, while throwing 4 touchdowns, and 1 interception.  Clifford and Pat Freiermuth hooked up for 3 touchdowns in the game.  Penn State out gained the Spartans 302 to 265.

The Nittany Lions defense came up big in the game, forcing 4 turnovers.  The Nittany Lions defense also held Michigan State to just 83 yds rushing.

#17 Minnesota Golden Gophers +6.5

Minnesota has held their last three opponents to no more than 10 points, and they are averaging 38.4 points per game on offense.

Call Smith the lawnmower man for the Golden Gophers considering he chews up the most grass for their offense. His ability to break through that brick wall of a defensive front for Penn State is the only way any magic happens on Saturday.

Minnesota got out to a quick 14-0 lead and never looked back.  The Golden Gophers led 28-3 at the half.  Minnesota quarterback Tanner Morgan was 12 of 21 for 138 yds, while throwing 2 TD's and 1 INT.  Rodney Smith added 103 yds rushing on 17 carries and a touchdown in the win.

The Golden Gophers defense was on it's "A" game, holding Maryland to just 210 yds of total offense.  Minnesota accumulated 498 yds of total offense.  The Golden Gophers held Maryland to just 79 yds rushing.

The Pick:

Minnesota has played exceptionally well all season and has a balanced attack of both running and passing and the Golden Gophers defense is allowing just 20.0 points per game while the offense is scoring an average of 38.6 per game. Minnesota has covered the number in each of its last 6 Big Ten games and each of its last 5 overall. Take the home dog to win. Final Score Prediction, Minnesota Golden Gophers win and cover ATS 27-23.
