Rajasthan Royals vs Punjab Kings Indian Premier League Cricket Match 4th Preview and Prediction 4/12/21
Rajasthan Royals underdogs from the first season in 2008 began their journey with a title win. They have finished seven times in the bottom half of the table since then, reaching the play-offs only three times; and never another ending. This only got worse in 2020, when they finished with the wooden spoon.
Their story last season was historic, after illuminating Sharjah with two stellar victories to kick off his campaign. Steve Smith replaced Ajinkya Rahane in mid-2019, and led the team in 2020 before being replaced by Sanju Samson for the next season. They also acquired the services of off-roader Chris Morris, spending the most money for a player in IPL auction history.
On the other hand Punjab's inability to close matches led to his early departure in 2020, the team was disappointed with some of the big names overseas. The Pacers leaked into death overs, the middle order lacking runs, adding pressure to the higher order.
The lack of depth in the batting order hurt them. In their attempt to correct the mistakes of the previous year, the Kings strengthened their rhythm department with the arrival of Richardson and Meredith. This year Punjab adds more depth to his stick, releasing Rahul at the top. But the personnel change and the nature of the fields where the Punjab play most of their matches will give Rahul the freedom to play his shots.
Punjab's journey in the Indian Premier League has constantly evolved, with the changing of captains, coaches and team personnel. This season he takes one more step to change the name of his franchise from Kings XI Punjab to Punjab Kings. Will that align the stars this time around for Punjab, whose only constant in the 13 editions of the IPL so far has been an empty trophy cabinet?
