Reason for Cincinnati Bearcats vs #16 Ohio State Buckeyes NCAAB Picks

Cincinnati Bearcats +6

The Bearcats finished (28-7) a year ago, while the Buckeyes were (20-15). Ohio State won last year’s matchup between the two teams in Cincinnati, 64-56.

The key for the Bearcats will be the play of the point guard. Chris McNeal could help solve those issues. He's a transfer from New Mexico, who averaged 9.5 points and 2.7 assists in 2017-18, but he will be playing for his fifth school in five years.

Senior guard Jarron Cumberland, the 2019 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year after averaging 18.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game, is the top returnee for the Bearcats - picked to finish third in the AAC preseason poll. The other returning starters are senior forward Tre Scott (9.3 points. 6.9 rebounds) and junior guard Keith Williams (9.9 points, 3.2 rebounds).

#16 Ohio State Buckeyes -6

The Buckeyes will be led by Kaleb Wesson, he was a preseason All Big Ten selection.  The Buckeyes have a brutal non-conference schedule this year. Besides Cincinnati, the Buckeyes face, No.10 Villanova, No.11 North Carolina, and No. Kentucky.

The Buckeyes will have to replace point guard C.J. Jackson, who averaged 12.0 points and 3.5 assists. Junior C.J. Walker (9.ppg, 2.5rpg) could be the answer. The former Florida State starter at least has experience. But freshman D.J. Carton from Iowa (24.4ppg, 6.0apg) is a five-star left-handed shooter and a big-time leaper.

Ohio State begins a challenging non-conference schedule that includes No. 10 Villanova at home, No. 11 North Carolina on the road, No. 2 Kentucky in Las Vegas and West Virginia in Cleveland.
