Preview

The Atlanta Hawks arrive in Los Angeles on a seven-game winning streak and look to build on that momentum in a rare 12:30 p.m. clash. local time against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday afternoon.

The game against the Lakers is the beginning of an eight-game road trip through the West for the Hawks.

Atlanta has received a shock since head coach Lloyd Pierce was fired on March 1 and replaced by assistant coach Nate McMillan; the Hawks are 7-0 with the veteran NBA coach leading the way.

The Hawks' seven-game winning streak is the longest in the NBA and Atlanta's longest winning streak since it also had a seven-game winning streak in January 2017.

The trip from Atlanta to the West Coast will also be Rajon Rondo's first return trip to Los Angeles against his former team since the Lakers won the NBA Championship in the Orlando bubble last year.

Earlier this season, the Lakers beat the Hawks in Atlanta, 107-99 on February 1.

Playmaker Trae Young continues to be the Hawks' catalyst, averaging 25.9 points and 9.4 assists per game. The Hawks also received a defensive boost with the return of center Clint Capela, who had eight points and eight rebounds in Thursday's 116-93 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Capela had missed two games with pain in his left heel.

Like the Hawks, the Lakers are playing well right now, on a four-game winning streak since the All-Star break.

More impressive still, the Lakers did it without starters Anthony Davis and Marc Gasol.

Davis has missed the last 13 games with a right calf strain. He has started weight training and light work, and the Lakers will reevaluate Davis' potential availability at the end of the month. The Lakers are 11-7 this season and Davis is out of the lineup.

Gasol has missed the last six games due to NBA health and safety protocols. Gasol has been kicked out of solitary confinement, but remains within NBA health and safety protocols. He could be available for Saturday's game against Atlanta.

With Davis and Gasol unavailable, the Lakers relied on more hits from their bench players like Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell and Talen Horton-Tucker. This trio combined for an average of 50 points per contest during the month of March.

Along with these three, James continues to perform at a high level. The 36-year-old has two triple-doubles in the last three games and is averaging 28 points, nine assists and 7.6 rebounds per game in March.

Even though the Lakers are 1-1 / 2 games behind the Western Conference Jazz leader, James said his team is not yet focused on moving to Utah.

WINNER: Atlanta Hawks @ +4.0
