Tampa Bay Rays

Despite averaging five points per game, Tampa Bay found itself trailing 2-1 in the American League.

Wander Franco and Austin Meadows had their first playoff home runs of 2021, but they weren't enough in a 6-4 Game 3 loss Sunday night. Drew Rasmussen allowed three earned runs in just two innings of work before giving way to the Rays relievers in loss.

The Rays have now allowed 20 points in their last two games, so the field is not where it needs to be to win this series. Collin McHugh is expected to go after the Rays and in that case it would be a bullpen game.

Boston Red Sox

Boston is expected to deliver the ball to left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez for Monday's game at Fenway Park. The 28-year-old continued his playoff struggles in Game 1, allowing two earned runs in frame 1 against the Rays.

Rodriguez finished the regular season with an overall record of 13-8 along with a 4.74 ERA in 32 games (31 starts). In nine career playoff appearances (two starts), the Red Sox left-hander has a 9.00 ERA.

Predictions and Picks

After the Rays beat Rodriguez in Game 1, the southpaw should have a good chance of bouncing back there. Rodriguez had a stealthy season in 2021, with strikeout and batting rates, but was plagued by bad luck on the mound. Even after his poor performance in Game 1, he has a 2.34 ERA in three starts this month. No matter who the Rays end up sending to the mound, take Boston to move on with a home win in Game 4 of the ALDS at Fenway Park on Monday.
