Jack Flaherty St. Louis Cardinals
ERA 4.91 (4-3)

Jack Flaherty allowed three earned runs on four hits and four walks while striking out five over five innings in the Cardinals 3-0 loss to the Brewers in Game One on Friday.

Flaherty allowed a solo home run to Christian Yelich in the third inning and at least one Brewer reached base in every inning except the first. The Cardinals fell to 28-27 with the loss.

Mike Clevinger San Diego Padres
ERA 2.84 (-)

Mike Clevinger has been left off the Wild Card roster against the Cardinals.

Clevinger not being on the roster was to be expected. It remains to be seen if he will recover in time for any further playoff series.

Clevinger didn't have his best year on and off the field, but he will be a top-15 starting pitcher off the board next year.

St. Louis took a 4-0 lead for the second time in this series on Thursday night. The Cardinals were still leading by four points when they entered the end of the sixth inning to 6-2, but thereafter, the bullpen imploded.

Saint-Louis allowed four runs in the sixth, three runs in the seventh and two runs in the eighth, leaving a 9-point effort on offense that was lost in an 11-9 loss.

Manager Mike Shildt may have removed Adam Wainwright too early in Game 2, as he was removed from the game in the fourth inning after throwing just 72 shots.

It will be interesting to see if Shildt gives Flaherty a longer strap in this game after poor pen performance or if he uses the same quick hook strategy in Game 3.

Fernando Tatis Jr. has become one of the brightest young stars in the league during this year's regular season with 50 points, 17 home runs and 45 RBIs in 59 games.

The Tatis Jr. superstar hit the national stage Thursday night when the 21-year-old exploded home runs in consecutive innings, hitting five of San Diego's 11 points and adding a rising touch with an aggressive bat flip afterward. his second home run. San Diego is 8-0 in Tatis Jr.'s last eight games.

Wil Myers also hit two home runs and Manny Machado added one in San Diego's impressive victory. Game 2 showed just how dangerous this Padres team can be in the playoffs, even without a healthy pitching staff.
