San Francisco Giants vs Los Angeles Dodgers MLB Baseball Preview

San Francisco Giants Will Try to Get a Win When Meet Los Angeles Dodgers from Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California - Major League Baseball (MLB) Baseball Match Preview and Prediction Game on Thursday, May 27, 2021.

Preview, Prediction and Picks

The Los Angeles Dodgers continued their victories with a sweep in San Francisco this weekend.

The Dodgers will see if they can match up to National League rival West, starting with a four-game opener on Thursday in Los Angeles.

The Dodgers won three straight games in the Bay Area in a sweep that ended Sunday with an 11-5 victory. It was the Dodgers' highest score in an eight-game winning streak that ended Wednesday in a 5-2 loss to Houston.

In battles as recent as May 9, the Dodgers gained momentum by winning 12 of 14 games before arriving in San Francisco on Friday. They ended up defeating the Giants 19-9 in a clash between two of the best teams in the Major Leagues.

The Dodgers may have lost to the Astros on Wednesday, but they went 4-1 on their just-concluded road trip and share an identical 30-19 record with the Giants. Both teams continue to seek the top spot from the San Diego Padres.

The Dodgers will open a seven-game home game with a bullpen play on Friday. They could have put the bullpen anywhere in the series, but Roberts said the first game was selected to give starters Walker Buehler and Julio Urias an extra day of rest.

The Dodgers had yet to decide who would start Friday's game. They used David Price in that role last Thursday when he debuted two innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Giants will arrive in Southern California with some momentum after coming back from a 5-4 win over Arizona to complete a two-game sweep. It was just the answer San Francisco needed after being swept away.

The Giants also have a seven-game winning streak en route to Los Angeles, though first baseman Brandon Belt (oblique) just got on the disabled list and Darin Ruf injured his right tendon in the game.

The Giants won Wednesday with two runs in the sixth and three runs in the eighth on a two-run homer by Austin Slater and a single shot by Jason Vosler.

The Giants will have left-hander Alex Wood (5-1, 1.93 ERA) on the mound on Friday. Wood, who pitched in parts of five of the previous six seasons with the Dodgers, will take the mound at Dodger Stadium in a road uniform for the first time since May 27, 2015.

In six career outings (four starts) against the Dodgers, Wood is 2-1 with a 2.15 ERA. He allowed two runs and eight hits in six innings in Friday's 2-1 loss.
