New York Yankees vs Texas Rangers MLB Baseball Preview and Free Picks 05/20/21

New York Yankees Will Try to Get a Win When Meet Texas Rangers from Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California - Major League Baseball (MLB) Baseball Match Preview and Prediction Game on Thursday, May 20, 2021.

Preview, Prediction and Picks

Less than 24 hours after Corey Kluber threw the Yankees' first no-hitter since 1999, New York wrapped up a 10-game road trip Thursday afternoon with another game against the Texas Rangers.

Kluber faced one hitter above the minimum on Wednesday in a 2-0 victory.

He pitched New York's first soft since David Cone's perfect match against the Montreal Expos on July 18, 1999. The next day, Hideki Irabu started and his no-hit offer ended when Rondell White called. first entry.

Kluber produced the sixth scorer this season, and it came one night after Detroit's Spencer Turnbull faced two over-minimum in a scorer against the Seattle Mariners.

Kluber's departure gave the Yankees a second straight victory after losing a 5-2 decision in the series opener. New York has also improved to 6-3 on the road and 18-8 since leaving 6-11.

The Rangers were left intact for the second time this season, joining the Cleveland Indians and Mariners as the third team to have two no-hitters against them this season.

Texas was also unaffected on April 9 when San Diego's Joe Musgrove did it on the road. In the next game after the first no-hitter, the Rangers scored three times in the second inning and had seven hits in a 7-4 loss to the Padres.

Culberson was the only Ranger to reach when he made a third inning. He and Isiah Kiner-Falefa were the only Rangers who did not retreat. Nick Solak deployed all three of his at-bats against Kluber.

Failing to hit Kluber has continued some recent struggles for Texas. The Rangers are 1-8 since reaching 0.500 with a 10-2 win over the Mariners on May 9. During that nine-game streak, they've limited themselves to three points or less five times.

After the Kluber jewel, New York's Domingo German (3-2, 3.62 ERA) is seeking his fourth straight win Thursday and looking to continue his strong results since his return from alternate site on April 22. Since he returned, he is 3-0 with a 2.40 ERA in five starts and has thrown at least six innings in four of those outings.

The German's last start was Saturday in an 8-2 win at Baltimore, where he allowed one run and four hits in six innings. The German struck out six, scoring the fifth time in a row, hitting exactly six batters.

The right-hander's only start against the Rangers was on May 22, 2018, when he allowed six runs and four hits in 3 2/3 innings in a 6-4 loss to Texas.

Dane Dunning (2-3, 4.34 ERA), whose 42 strikeouts lead AL rookies, is heading to Texas and looking to reverse some recent struggles. In his last five starts, he's 1-3 with a 6.85 ERA. He has never faced the Yankees.

Dunning's last start was Saturday in Houston, when he allowed four runs and seven hits in four innings in a 6-5 loss. He made two wild pitches, the worst of the season, and tied a season with three walks.

Dunning faltered early in his last start, allowing the first four batters to reach base in the first inning. He hit a two-run home run to Carlos Correa, the first home run he had given her since April 6.
