Milwaukee Brewers vs Cincinnati Reds MLB Baseball Preview and Free Picks

Milwaukee Brewers Will Try to Get a Win When Meet LCincinnati Reds from Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati, Ohio - Major League Baseball (MLB) Baseball Match Preview and Prediction Game on Friday, May 21, 2021.

Preview, Prediction and Picks

Although it has been a tough week for the Cincinnati Reds, recent fights for the Milwaukee Brewers have lingered throughout May.

Losers by a combined six in a row, the Brewers and Reds meet for the first time this season Friday night in Cincinnati.

On May 1, Milwaukee was 17-10 and in the middle of a three-game winning streak. However, the Brewers are 4-12 since then and have just been swept away in a two-game set at Kansas City. A loser in five of six, Milwaukee has hit .209, averaging 3.0 points and posted a 4.50 ERA in the last 16 games.

Milwaukee, which has lost seven of its last nine road games, went 4-6 to Cincinnati last season. However, these Reds are four games under 0.500, lost six of eight, and were defeated 33-9 while being swept away by San Francisco in a four-game home series.

Adrian Houser (3-4, 3.63 ERA) is expected to take the mound for the Brewers in this series opener. The right-hander lasted three innings at the lowest of the season while giving up two runs, two hits and five goals in 2021, while also hitting a batter, in a 6-3 home loss to Atlanta last Friday.

Houser, however, is 2-1 with a 2.49 ERA in four road starts this season. He's 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in three career starts at Cincinnati. Nick Castellanos, Jesse Winker and Eugenio Suarez are a 14-for-32 combined with six homers against Houser.

Castellanos (.338 and Winker (.343) are two of the best hitters in the majors, with the former 15-for-28 with five RBIs in an eight-game streak.

The Cincinnati starting pitchers, however, have an 8.91 ERA in the last eight games. Tyler Mahle gave up seven points while registering just six strikeouts before being pulled out in Thursday's 19-4 loss to the Giants.

Cincinnati scheduled starter Jeff Hoffman (2-3, 4.67 ERA) is looking to stop a streak where he has surrendered 15 runs - 12 wins, 14 hits and 11 steps in 14 1/3 innings to go 0-2 on his last four starts. The right-hander went 2-1 while allowing six earned runs and walking seven in 20 1/3 innings of his first four starts in 2021.

Hoffman has a no-decision 2.70 ERA in his two starts against the Brewers, but he hasn't faced them since 2019. Milwaukee star Christian Yelich has a two-beat hit against Hoffman, but is 0 for 6 with three walks in the last two games since being taken off the injured list with a strain in his lower back.

His teammate Kolten Wong, however, is 6-for-13 in his last three games. He is also a career .293 hitter in Cincinnati.

The Reds announced Thursday that veteran Mike Moustakas has been placed on the injured list with a heel problem.
