Los Angeles Dodgers vs Colorado Rockies MLB Opening Season Preview
|Clayton Kershaw LAD |
|German Marquez COL |
The Dodgers just had a great season, finishing 43-17 and top in the NL West. Los Angeles would go on to beat the Rays in the World Series. As for the Rockies, they finished 26-34 last year. That result left Colorado in fourth place in the division and out of the playoffs.
Los Angeles began the 2020 season with a 30-10 tear, equaling the best 40-game start in franchise history. The Dodgers would claim their eighth straight division title, beating the Brewers and Padres in the first two playoffs.
LA then eliminated the Braves in the NLCS and the Rays in the World Series to win the championship.
For the start of Opening Day on Thursday, the Dodgers will be looking for Clayton Kershaw. This will be Kershaw's ninth opening day, a franchise record. Kershaw was 6-2 with a 2.16 ERA in 10 games last year, but struggled this spring with a 10.22 ERA in four starts.
The Colorado Rockies, who a few years ago appeared to be only a few pieces away from a World Series contender, but now it appears they are undergoing a rebuild.
The biggest player missing last season is Nolan Arenado, whom the team decided to trade to the St. Louis Cardinals.
The pitching staff is also very difficult as the season approaches, which could become a big problem.
German Marquez will start for the Rockies and he was decent last season. Marquez finished the year with an overall record of 4-6 and a 3.75 average. It's a tough lineup and Marquez will have to be eliminated.
