The Houston Astros are on the road when they take on the Chicago White Sox in Game 4 of the American League Division Series on Monday afternoon, if necessary. Houston won the first two games of the series at home, winning 6-1 in Game 1 on Thursday afternoon and then with a 9-4 victory on Friday afternoon in Game 2. This article was published before the conclusion of Game 3 of the series, which took place Sunday night.

Houston Astros

Houston handled internal affairs in the first two games of the series, winning in both competitions while recovering late to claim Game 2 victory on Friday afternoon. The Astros are now looking to finish things off on the road to prepare for the American League Championship Series.

Houston received two hits apiece from Kyle Tucker (run, three RBIs) and Alex Bregman (two runs) on Friday to lead a 10-hit offense. Tucker hit his first playoff home run in a five-run seventh inning that broke a 4-4 tie.

Framber Valdez ignored the decision as he pitched 4.1 innings, allowing four runs and seven hits with one walk and six strikeouts before walking away. Ryne Stanek (1-0) took the victory with a seventh score, allowing a hit with a walk and two strikeouts.

Jose Urquidy is set to make his first playoff start after making 20 regular-season starts for the Astros. He finished the year 8-3 with a 3.62 ERA, 0.991 WHIP, 19 walks and 90 strikeouts in 107 innings of work for the year. Urquidy ignored the decision in his last start, which was at home to Oakland on Oct. 3.

He pitched six innings, allowing three runs and four hits with one walk and three strikeouts in a game the Astros won in style. , 7-6. On the road this season, Urquidy is 4-2 with a 3.86 ERA, 1,071 WHIP, 12 walks and 50 strikeouts in 56 innings in 10 starts.

Urquidy beat the White Sox in his only career start against them, which came home on June 17. He pitched seven innings, allowing two runs and four hits with one walk and five strikeouts in the Astros' 10-2 victory.

In his 43rd major league appearance (regular and postseason) and his 37th start, he was pitching for the first time at the guaranteed rate field. Urquidy is 1-1 with a 2.81 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, eight walks and 24 strikeouts in 25.2 innings in eight career appearances, four starts, in the playoffs.

Chicago White Sox

Chicago made it through the regular season portion because they were in a weak division and it appears to have cost them some of the lead they need in the playoffs. The White Sox were stifled in Game 1, then blew a 4-2 lead in Game 2, putting them on the brink of elimination. Their next loss will put them in the offseason.

Chicago received three hits apiece from Tim Anderson (running) and Luis Robert (two runs, RBI) on Friday, while Jose Abreu (RBI) added a pair in the game.

Lucas Giolito ignored the decision as he allowed four runs and three hits with five walks and four strikeouts in four innings of work. Aaron Bummer (0-1) suffered the loss by allowing three runs on three walks without a walk and a strikeout in the third inning.

Carlos Rodon is set to make his first playoff start of the year after making 24 regular-season starts for the White Sox. He was 13-5 with a 2.37 ERA, 0.957 WHIP, 36 walks and 185 strikeouts in 132.2 innings of work for the year.

Rodon claimed victory in his most recent start, which was at home against the Reds on September 29. He pitched five scoreless innings, allowing a hit with two walks and four strikeouts in a 6-1 victory at Chicago. A local pitcher this season, Rodon was 6-3 with a 2.26 ERA, 0.832 WHIP, 15 walks and 85 strikeouts in 63.2 innings in 11 starts.

Rodon is making his eighth start in his career against the Astros in this contest. He goes 2-0 with a 1.55 ERA, 1,036 WHIP, 12 walks and 44 strikeouts in 46.1 innings of work against them. Rodon is 21-18 with a 3.94 ERA, 1,298 WHIP, 125 walks and 340 strikeouts in 317.1 innings in 58 career appearances, 56 starts, at guaranteed rate field. Rodon is recordless, infinite ERA, infinite WHIP with two walks and no strikeouts as he fails to knock out a batter in his only career playoff appearance.

Predictions and Picks

While Rodon has gotten off to a good start this season, he's only pitched 28 innings since Aug. 1 and hasn't gone beyond five innings in a game since July 18. His speed collapsed as the season progressed. It's hard to have the confidence to delve into the game or the White Sox area after Friday's collapse in Game 2. Houston has the experience factor and they have momentum on their side. The Astros' bats do enough to lead them to a victory to win the series.
