Colorado Rockies vs Los Angeles Angels MLB Free Picks, Prediction 7/26/2021

Colorado Rockies Will Try to Get a Win When Meet Los Angeles Angels from Angel Stadium, Anaheim, California - Major League Baseball (MLB) Match Preview and Prediction Game on Monday, July 26, 2021.
Preview

Shohei Ohtani will be on the Los Angeles Angels' mound on Monday in Anaheim, California, when they face the Colorado Rockies. Ohtani is also expected to be in the lineup as a hitter.

It will be Ohtani's second start since he left the All-Star Game, no decision last Monday when he pitched six scoreless innings against Oakland, allowing just three hits and striking out eight.

Ohtani, however, struggled offensively immediately after the All-Star Game, going 4 of 24 with 14 strikeouts in six games before moving on to Friday's game against Minnesota.

The day off seemed to help, as Ohtani went 4-for-7 with a home run, two doubles and an intentional march against the Twins over the weekend. His home run on Sunday was the 35th of the season and the second since the break.

Even Minneapolis fans weren't happy to see Ohtani intentionally enter the eighth inning Sunday with a runner in the third and two outs - they booed him.

Monday's game against the Rockies will be the first in a seven-game home run, but center fielder Mike Trout (right calf stretched) is unlikely to return to the lineup until the club gets back on the road.

Trout has been out since May 17 and was due to miss eight weeks, but it has been 10 weeks since he sustained the injury while running the bases. His rehab now includes basic running and hitting training, but he still feels "something" in his calf when he runs hard. He will undergo further tests on Monday.

German right-hander Marquez (8-7, 3.50 ERA) will start for Colorado, returning to earth in his final start after pitching alongside anyone preparing for the All-Star break.

In his last five starts before halftime, Marquez went 4-0 with a 0.75 ERA (3 earned runs in 36 innings), allowing just 12 hits, striking out 34 and earning an all-star pick. But in his first start after the break last Tuesday, he allowed four runs and seven hits in six innings in a loss to Seattle.

Don't worry, because Marquez, with a 90s fastball, one of the best curveballs in the majors, and a good head on his shoulders, shouldn't be fighting for long.

Marquez has faced the Angels once in his career, allowing two runs in seven innings of a game last season, earning a no-decision decision. Ohtani has never faced the Rockies.
